Beach Cleanups in Los Angeles County
Heal the Bay mobilizes thousands of volunteers each year to pick up trash at beaches and in our watersheds in Los Angeles County. Cleanups are the last defense against marine pollution. We actively use data collected by volunteers (like total trash and the types of trash in each area) from local cleanups to educate businesses and communities, support environmental legislation, and advocate for the health of our waterways. In addition to picking up trash and debris at the beach, we encourage cleanups at any accessible outdoor location in Greater LA’s watersheds.
Here’s how you can get involved in a Heal the Bay cleanup through our Nothin’ But Sand, Suits on the Sand, Adopt-A-Beach, and Coastal Cleanup Day programs.
Heal the Bay has recently relaunched our once-a-month Nothin’ But Sand group beach cleanups for the public. Volunteers learn more about ocean pollution and how to make an impact. Due to limited capacity, we announce our beach cleanups no later than the 1st of the month. Sign up for our newsletter to stay in the know about where we’ll be next in LA. Questions? Individuals and households can Adopt-A-Beach by committing to three cleanups in one year at your chosen outdoor place (a beach, neighborhood, park, creek or trail) anywhere in Greater Los Angeles.
Heal the Bay hosts Coastal Cleanup Day in Los Angeles County on the third Saturday of September (save the date: September 16, 2023). Community members, businesses, groups, schools, teams, and more are encouraged to get involved in the biggest cleanup of the year at a favorite outdoor location in LA!
